The Millennium Falcon at the Disneyland Resort in California

Your Guide to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the Disneyland Resort

| |

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the Disneyland Resort is the ultimate destination for all those who love and long to be immersed in the world that is Star Wars. I’ll be honest and say that I was very excited to visit this new land during my last trip to Disneyland in November 2019. But I didn’t really know what to expect. For one thing, only one of the major attractions attached to this project was open. And while I have read quite a bit about how detailed the land is, I’ve also read reports concerning low attendance. Some claimed the new land didn’t live up to the hype.

But I was pleasantly surprised by what I encountered. While I knew I was in Disneyland, it did NOT feel like it was Disneyland anymore. Upon entering, I immediately encountered Stormtroopers as well as Kylo Ren (who tried to entice my daughters to join the First Order!) Did the land feel complete yet? No. But to be fair, it wasn’t finished yet. On January 17, 2020, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened in Disneyland. And while I haven’t been on Disneyland’s version of the ride yet, I have had the opportunity to ride the identical attraction in Walt Disney World. All I can say is… wow!

Update… Disney has replaced FastPass and MaxPass with the brand new Disney Genie and Disney Genie+. The new system is very similar to Disneyland’s MaxPass as it is an add-on purchase allowing you to make “Lightning Lane” reservations throughout your day in the parks. There is also the option to purchase Individual Attraction reservations for select top-tier attractions. For more information, be sure to visit our guide. Happy Planning!

The Rides:

Smuggler's Run at the Disneyland ResortMillennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

  • Height Restrictions: 38 inches or taller
  • About the Ride: This brand new simulator attraction allows you to fly the Millennium Falcon, a dream come true for many Star Wars fans! There are three “jobs” onboard – pilot, gunner, and engineer. The pilot definitely has the best view yet the most difficult job. I highly recommend that younger children be gunners as it’s the easiest job. My six-year-old enjoyed it very much and felt like she was contributing to the cause. Engineers sit in the back, but unlike the gunners, they get to do more than simply hit a couple of buttons. I actually really enjoyed being the engineer on our flight.
  • Wait Time:  Up to 100 minutes during peak times, but less at later times in the day. We waited 30-45 minutes on weekdays.
  • Genie+ Attraction: Not yet

Stormtroopers on Rise of Resistance | Magic in the PlanningStar Wars: Rise of the Resistance

  • Height Restrictions: 40 inches or taller
  • About the Ride: You don’t have to be a Star Wars fan to appreciate the level of detail on this attraction. From start to finish, this ride is quite an immersive experience. While Disney rides are known for their storylines, this ride takes it a step further. You become a prisoner of the First Order. The cast members running the ride never break character making the experience unlike any other. As far as the ride itself, be prepared for a trackless ride as you escape from the clutches of Kylo Ren and the First Order. Also, be aware that there is a small drop near the end of the ride. This ride uses a similar mechanism as Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, but it is a much smaller drop. (My young daughters, 7 and 9-years-old loved the drop!)
  • Wait Time: This ride currently uses a virtual queue system, as there is no standby line.
  • Genie+ Attraction: The Lightning Lane of this top-tier attraction is only available as an Individual Attraction purchase and not included as part of Genie+.
  • Virtual Queue: This ride currently utilizes a virtual queue. It opens for guests with a Disneyland park reservation at 7:00 AM, and you are able to make your reservation via the Disneyland app. If you have a park reservation for California Adventure and plan on “hopping” over to Disneyland (or if you were unable to secure a reservation at 7:00 AM), you can make your reservation at 12:00 PM.
