|
The Complete Guide to Magic Kingdom Rides and Attractions | magicintheplanning.com

By Alyssa Howard

If there is one park at Walt Disney World that truly captures the magic of the whole resort, it’s Magic Kingdom. It’s the park people picture when they close their eyes and imagine Disney World, the one that tends to make grown adults tear up a little while walking down Main Street, U.S.A. for the first time. And while it looks familiar if you’ve ever been to Disneyland, Magic Kingdom has a personality all its own.

It also has a lot of rides. Between the thrill coasters, the classic dark rides, the shows, and the interactive experiences, there is genuinely something here for everyone. Whether you’re bringing a toddler on their first trip or riding TRON for the fifth time, knowing what’s here before you go makes a huge difference.

This is your complete guide to Magic Kingdom rides and attractions, organized by land, with Lightning Lane details, height requirements, and honest tips on when to visit each one.

Magic Kingdom Lightning Lane: What You Need to Know

Before we get into the rides themselves, it’s worth understanding how Lightning Lane works at Magic Kingdom, because this park has more Lightning Lane options than any other park at Walt Disney World, and how you use them can make or break your day.

Magic Kingdom offers three Lightning Lane options. The Lightning Lane Multi Pass lets you pre-book up to three experiences per day with arrival windows. Selections are tiered: you choose one attraction from Tier 1 and two from Tier 2, or all three from Tier 2 if you prefer. The Lightning Lane Single Pass is purchased separately and covers the two highest-demand attractions in the park. There is also a Lightning Lane Premier Pass, which gives you front-of-line access across nearly all attractions for a premium price.

Disney Resort guests can purchase and pre-book Multi Pass selections 7 days before their first park day. All other guests can book 3 days in advance. Bookings open at 7:00 a.m. Eastern.

Lightning Lane Single Pass (purchased separately per attraction):

  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
  • TRON Lightcycle / Run

Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Tier 1 (choose up to one when pre-booking):

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Jungle Cruise
  • Peter Pan’s Flight
  • Space Mountain
  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Tier 2 (choose your remaining selections from this group, or all three):

  • The Barnstormer
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
  • Dumbo the Flying Elephant
  • Haunted Mansion
  • “it’s a small world”
  • Mad Tea Party
  • The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
  • Mickey’s PhilharMagic
  • Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Tomorrowland Speedway
  • Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid

My general advice: use your Tier 1 pre-booking on Peter Pan’s Flight, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, or Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, since those tend to have the most consistently long waits. For Tier 2, prioritize Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, or The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Save the smaller family rides (Dumbo, Magic Carpets, Barnstormer) for early morning or late evening when lines are naturally shorter.

Adventureland Rides and Attractions

Adventureland sets the tone for the whole park in the best possible way. The theming is lush and immersive, the attractions skew toward classic Disney storytelling, and it tends to be one of the busier areas of the park in the morning. Two rides here, Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean, are genuine Magic Kingdom icons that deserve a spot on every itinerary. The area also has some lower-key gems worth exploring if you have the time.

Jungle Cruise

Jungle Cruise is one of those rides that has been delighting guests since Magic Kingdom opened, and it holds up completely. You board a canopied boat and cruise through the rivers of Asia, Africa, and South America, narrated by a tour guide with an endless supply of groan-worthy puns. The animatronic animals are charmingly vintage, and the whole experience has a warmth that newer attractions sometimes can’t replicate. It’s especially enjoyable at night when the outdoor queue moves faster and the atmosphere shifts a little.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 1)
  • Attraction Length: About 10 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone (especially those who appreciate a good bad joke)
  • When to Visit: First or last hour of the day, or anytime with a LL Multi Pass
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Think of this one as Dumbo’s cousin in Adventureland. You fly in a circle on a magic carpet, rising and dipping as you go, with a giant genie lamp in the center and camel fountains that spit at you if you’re not paying attention. It’s a short, sweet ride that works well for younger children.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 2)
  • Attraction Length: About 90 seconds
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone, especially families with small children
  • When to Visit: Anytime
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No

A Pirate’s Adventure ~ Treasures of the Seven Seas

This interactive treasure hunt is a great way to slow down and explore Adventureland at your own pace. Pick up a talisman from The Crow’s Nest to unlock a secret map, then complete five missions throughout the land to collect treasure finder cards, ending with Captain Jack Sparrow’s autograph. There’s no charge to participate, no time limit on each mission, and it’s a genuinely fun way to spend time in the land if you have younger kids in your group.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: Each of the 5 missions takes about 20 minutes.
  • Who Should Enjoy: Anyone, especially families with kids
  • When to Visit: Available a few hours after park opening; guests can begin up until 30 minutes before Adventureland closes.
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No

Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World | magicintheplanning.com

Pirates of the Caribbean

If you only have time for one ride in Adventureland, make it this one. Pirates of the Caribbean is a slow-moving boat ride through a full-scale pirate battle, complete with cannon fire, crumbling fortresses, and a cameo from Captain Jack Sparrow. There are a couple of small drops in the dark that can catch first-timers off guard, but nothing remotely intense. This is one of the great classic rides in all of Disney World, and it never gets old.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 2)
  • Attraction Length: About 8 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone
  • When to Visit: First two or last two hours of the day, or anytime with a LL Multi Pass
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: Yes. (Look toward the skull and crossbones to your left just after passing the skeleton pirate at the ship’s wheel.)
  • Additional Info: There is a small drop in the dark at the beginning of the ride.

Swiss Family Treehouse

This self-guided walkthrough attraction lets you explore the treehouse from the classic Disney film Swiss Family Robinson, winding up through multiple levels with views over Adventureland. It involves a fair number of stairs, but it moves at your own pace and is genuinely charming if you’re willing to slow down for it.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: About 15 minutes
  • Who Should Enjoy: Anyone
  • When to Visit: Anytime
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No

Enchanted Tiki Room at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World | magicintheplanning.com

Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room

One of the original Disney park attractions, the Enchanted Tiki Room features 225 Audio-Animatronic birds, flowers, and tiki gods performing a tropical musical revue. It is unabashedly old-fashioned and absolutely wonderful for it. The songs have a tendency to follow you for the rest of your vacation; consider yourself warned.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: About 16 minutes
  • Who Should Enjoy: Anyone, especially those who love a good piece of Disney history
  • When to Visit: Anytime, but especially great as a midday cool-down
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No

Fantasyland Rides and Attractions

Fantasyland is the heart of Magic Kingdom. It has more attractions than any other land, more character meet-and-greets, and some of the longest lines in the park. You’ll find everything from first-time roller coasters to immersive dark rides here, plus classics that have been delighting guests since opening day. It’s also where you’ll find Cinderella Castle anchoring the whole experience, which never loses its effect, no matter how many times you’ve seen it.

The key to Fantasyland is managing your time wisely. Peter Pan’s Flight and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train have two of the highest wait times in the park and should be tackled early or with a Lightning Lane. The rest of the land is much more manageable throughout the day.

The Barnstormer

Located in Storybook Circus at the far end of Fantasyland, The Barnstormer is a junior roller coaster themed around Goofy’s barnstorming act. It’s short, fun, and perfectly scaled for younger riders who are ready to try their first coaster. My kids have always loved this one as their warm-up before working up to bigger rides.

  • Height Restrictions: 35 inches or taller
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 2)
  • Attraction Length: About 90 seconds
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone who meets the height requirement, especially first-time coaster riders
  • When to Visit: Anytime
  • Open for Early Entry: Yes
  • Ride Photo: No
  • Additional Info: Rider Switch is available. One adult can wait with non-riders while the rest of the party rides, then board without waiting in the standby line. Check in with a Cast Member with your entire party to use this option.

Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station

This outdoor water play area in Storybook Circus is designed to look like the circus train from Dumbo, with sprayers, jets, and splash zones built into the animal car facades. It is a genuine lifesaver on a hot Florida afternoon when little ones need to burn some energy and cool off at the same time.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: N/A
  • Who Should Enjoy: Anyone who needs to cool off
  • When to Visit: Anytime
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No
  • Additional Info: Occasionally closed, so check the My Disney Experience app on the day of your visit.

At 189 feet tall, Cinderella Castle is one of the most recognizable structures in the world, and it earns that status every single time you see it. Dumbo the Flying Elephant

Dumbo is one of Magic Kingdom’s most iconic rides, and it has been a first-ride tradition for generations of Disney families. You control how high or low your elephant flies as you circle around in a gentle arc. It is a short ride but a genuinely sweet one, and the queue area includes a shaded indoor play space to keep kids entertained while you wait.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 2)
  • Attraction Length: About 90 seconds
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone, especially families with younger children
  • When to Visit: Anytime, though lines are shorter early morning or late evening
  • Open for Early Entry: Yes
  • Ride Photo: No

Enchanted Tales with Belle

This is one of the most underrated experiences in all of Magic Kingdom. Guests follow a Cast Member through Belle’s cottage and Maurice’s workshop, then into the Beast’s enchanted library via a truly magical mirror effect. Inside, everyone gets to participate in a retelling of the story, with some guests playing characters alongside Belle herself. It ends with a photo opportunity with Belle and is genuinely special for fans of Beauty and the Beast of any age.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: About 20 minutes
  • Who Should Enjoy: Anyone, especially Beauty and the Beast fans
  • When to Visit: Head here in the first hour of the day before the line builds.
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No (though some guests are invited for a quick photo with Belle at the end of the experience.)

“it’s a small world”

Fair warning: this song will be in your head for the rest of your trip. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. “it’s a small world” is a slow boat ride through scenes of children from around the globe, singing in cheerful harmony, and it is a quintessential Magic Kingdom experience. I’ve never met a person who didn’t smile at least once on this ride, no matter how many times they’ve done it.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 2)
  • Attraction Length: About 13 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone
  • When to Visit: First two or last two hours of the day, or use Early Entry
  • Open for Early Entry: Yes
  • Ride Photo: No

Mad Tea Party

Inspired by the Unbirthday scene from Alice in Wonderland, Mad Tea Party puts you inside an oversized spinning teacup on a rotating platform. There’s a spinning wheel in the center of each cup, and how aggressively you spin it is entirely up to your ride partners. Know your audience before you climb in.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 2)
  • Attraction Length: About 2 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone
  • When to Visit: Anytime
  • Open for Early Entry: Yes

  • Additional Info: Skip this one if you’re prone to motion sickness, or volunteer to hold everyone’s bags.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Board a giant beehive and bounce through the Hundred-Acre Wood alongside Pooh, Tigger, and friends in this gentle, colorful dark ride. It’s warm, charming, and one of the best rides in Fantasyland for very young visitors. The scenes inside are bright and playful, and the whole experience moves at a very easy pace.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 2)
  • Attraction Length: About 4 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone, especially families with little ones

Mickey’s PhilharMagic

When Donald Duck gets his hands on Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat and decides to conduct the orchestra, things go predictably off the rails. This 3D film experience pulls guests into beloved Disney musical moments from The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and more. It is funny, visually stunning, and one of the best midday breaks in the park.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 2)
  • Attraction Length: About 12 minutes
  • Who Should Enjoy: Anyone
  • When to Visit: Midday, when the Florida heat is at its worst and you want somewhere air-conditioned to sit
  • Open for Early Entry: Yes
  • Ride Photo: No

Peter Pan's Flight in Magic Kingdom | magicintheplanning.com

Peter Pan’s Flight

This is, without question, one of the most beloved Magic Kingdom rides in the park and one of the most consistently crowded. You board a pirate galleon and fly above Neverland, drifting over London by night and out into a world of mermaids, lost boys, and Captain Hook. The ride vehicle hangs from above, giving you a genuine sense of flight that makes it feel unlike anything else in the park. The queue is beautifully themed with interactive elements accessible through the Play Disney Parks app, which makes even a long wait enjoyable.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 1)
  • Attraction Length: About 3 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone
  • When to Visit: First or last hour of the day, or anytime with a LL Multi Pass. This is one of the best uses of a Tier 1 booking.
  • Open for Early Entry: Yes
  • Ride Photo: No

Prince Charming Regal Carrousel

A beautifully maintained classic carousel with 90 hand-painted horses and a soundtrack of Disney music playing as you spin. It’s a simple pleasure in the shadow of Cinderella Castle, and it’s one of those rides that somehow always feels right.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: About 2 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone
  • When to Visit: Anytime
  • Open for Early Entry: Yes

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is one of the most in-demand Magic Kingdom rides in the entire park, and for good reason. This family coaster swings from side to side as it races through Grumpy, Doc, and the gang’s diamond mine, with stunning animatronics inside and a genuinely thrilling pace that surprises first-time riders. A ride photo and video clip are automatically saved to your My Disney Experience account.

  • Height Restrictions: 38 inches or taller
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Single Pass only)
  • Attraction Length: About 3 minutes

  • Additional Info: Rider Switch is available. One adult can wait with non-riders while the rest of the party rides, then board without waiting in the standby line. Check in with a Cast Member with your entire party to use this option.

Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid

Climb into a giant clamshell and follow Ariel’s story from her life beneath the waves to her happily ever after. This leisurely dark ride is colorful, calm, and full of familiar songs and characters. It’s a reliable crowd-pleaser for guests of all ages, particularly those with young children.

Frontierland Rides and Attractions

Frontierland brings the American frontier to life in Magic Kingdom, and right now it is in a genuinely exciting moment. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad just returned from a major 16-month refurbishment, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure continues to be one of the most popular rides in the park, and the reimagined Country Bear Musical Jamboree is a fun, fresh take on a Walt Disney original. The Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island are no longer here, having closed permanently in July 2025 to make way for the upcoming Piston Peak National Park expansion, but what remains is a strong lineup.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Welcome back, old friend. After a 16-month closure for a complete track rebuild, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened in May 2026, and it is better than ever. The legendary Old West mine train coaster now features a stunning new Rainbow Caverns scene with glowing phosphorescent pools and shimmering stalactites underground, plus smoother track and refreshed trains throughout. Disney also lowered the height requirement from 40″ to 38″ as part of the refurbishment, which means even more young riders can experience what is famously “the wildest ride in the wilderness.” Expect elevated wait times through the summer of 2026 as guests flock back to this fan favorite.

  • Height Restrictions: 38 inches or taller
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 1)
  • Attraction Length: About 3 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone who meets the height requirement
  • When to Visit: First or last hour of the day, or anytime with a LL Multi Pass
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No
  • Additional Info: Rider Switch is available. One adult can wait with non-riders while the rest of the party rides, then board without waiting in the standby line. Check in with a Cast Member with your entire party to use this option.

Country Bear Musical Jamboree

The original Country Bear Jamboree was reimagined in 2024 as the Country Bear Musical Jamboree, and it’s a genuinely enjoyable update to a Walt Disney classic. Henry, Big Al, Trixie, Teddi Barra, and the rest of the bear gang are back in new rhinestone-studded costumes, now performing beloved Disney songs reimagined across a variety of country music styles: bluegrass, Americana, rockabilly, and pop-country among them. Longtime fans will spot plenty of Easter eggs woven throughout the show, and the performances from the real musicians who voiced the bears are legitimately impressive.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: About 16 minutes
  • Who Should Enjoy: Anyone
  • When to Visit: Anytime, especially great as a midday air-conditioned break
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No

Tiana's Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom | magicintheplanning.com

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure took over the Splash Mountain attraction and reimagined it around Princess Tiana and the world of The Princess and the Frog. Guests join Tiana as she searches the bayou for critter musicians for her new restaurant, building toward one of the most iconic finales in Magic Kingdom: a 50-foot drop that has been sending riders home drenched since 1992. The theming is vibrant and detailed, the music is wonderful, and that drop hits just as hard as ever.

  • Height Restrictions: 40 inches or taller
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 1)
  • Attraction Length: About 11 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone who meets the height requirement and doesn’t mind getting wet
  • When to Visit: First or last hour of the day, or anytime with a LL Multi Pass
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: Yes
  • Additional Info: The ride uses the same track as the original Splash Mountain, so the 50-foot drop is fully intact. Plan accordingly for your outfit!

Liberty Square Rides and Attractions

Themed after Colonial-era America, Liberty Square is one of the smaller areas of Magic Kingdom but home to one of its most iconic attractions. Note that with the Rivers of America now closed for construction, Liberty Square is slightly quieter than it used to be, which actually works in your favor if you’re trying to move through this area efficiently.

The Hall of Presidents

Set inside a theater modeled after Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, The Hall of Presidents features animatronic representations of every U.S. President, narrating key moments in American history. It was updated in 2025 following the presidential transition, and it remains one of the most technically impressive animatronic shows Disney has ever created. It’s also a fantastic spot to sit, cool off, and appreciate something that you genuinely cannot experience anywhere else.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: About 25 minutes
  • Who Should Enjoy: Anyone, especially history lovers
  • When to Visit: Midday when the park is at its busiest and you want a long sit in the air conditioning
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No

Haunted Mansion

Haunted Mansion is one of those Magic Kingdom rides that earns its legendary status completely. Your Doom Buggy carries you through a sprawling haunted manor filled with 999 happy haunts: hitchhiking ghosts, ballroom dancers, a singing bust named Gus, and the unforgettable Madame Leota. It’s atmospheric and clever, with new details revealing themselves on every ride. The line does move well, but wait times can climb during busy periods, so plan accordingly.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 2)
  • Attraction Length: About 10 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone (though it may be too spooky for very young children)
  • When to Visit: First two or last two hours of the day, or anytime with a LL Multi Pass
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: Yes. (Look toward the Medusa painting at the end of the first hallway.)

Main Street, U.S.A. Rides and Attractions

Main Street, U.S.A. is less a land of attractions and more the soul of Magic Kingdom itself. It’s the first thing you see when you enter the park and the last thing you see when you leave, lined with shops, restaurants, and the kind of turn-of-the-century theming that Walt Disney himself was deeply passionate about. There are two attractions here, and both are worth experiencing at least once.

Main Street Vehicles

A rotating fleet of vintage vehicles, including a horse-drawn streetcar, a fire engine, a Jitney, and an omnibus, offers short rides up and down Main Street between Town Square and the castle hub. They’re charming, lightly attended, and a lovely way to start or end your day on a more leisurely note.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: About 7-10 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone
  • When to Visit: First thing in the morning is your best bet; they’re often suspended during parades or peak crowd periods
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No

Walt Disney World Railroad

The Walt Disney World Railroad is a genuine steam-powered train that circles the entire park, with stops at Main Street, U.S.A., Fantasyland, and Frontierland. A full loop takes about 20 minutes, making it a practical way to cross the park while resting your feet. You’re welcome to stay on for multiple laps, which makes it one of the most underrated breaks in all of Magic Kingdom.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: About 20 minutes for the full loop
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone
  • When to Visit: Anytime, but especially useful midday when your feet need a rest
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No

Tomorrowland Rides and Attractions

Tomorrowland is Magic Kingdom’s most exciting land for thrill seekers, and 2026 has been a landmark year here. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin just returned from a major refurbishment with brand-new vehicles and upgraded technology, joining TRON Lightcycle / Run, Space Mountain, and the always-relaxing PeopleMover.

Astro Orbitor

This spinning rocket ship ride sits at the entrance to Tomorrowland and looks, at first glance, a lot like Dumbo. It isn’t. Astro Orbitor is higher off the ground and spins considerably faster, making it a better fit for older kids and adults who enjoy a bit of spinning with their scenery.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: About 90 seconds
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone, especially older kids and adults
  • When to Visit: First two or last two hours of the day
  • Open for Early Entry: Yes
  • Ride Photo: No

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

After closing in August 2025 for a full refurbishment, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin reopened in April 2026 with some genuinely exciting upgrades. The ride vehicles have been redesigned in Buzz’s signature colors and now feature built-in video monitors so you can track your score in real time. The blasters are now handheld, making it easier to take aim and actually hit your targets. A new character named Buddy, a friendly robot created by Imagineering and Pixar, leads you through a training tutorial before your mission begins. It’s the same fun interactive concept but noticeably improved.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 2)
  • Attraction Length: About 5 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone
  • When to Visit: First two or last two hours of the day, or anytime with a LL Multi Pass
  • Open for Early Entry: Yes
  • Ride Photo: Yes. (Taken as you face off against Zurg in the final room, now showing your score and rank.)

Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor

Mike Wazowski hosts this interactive comedy show where animated characters riff live with the audience using real-time technology. The jokes are groan-worthy in the best way, and there’s always a chance you’ll end up as part of the act. You can even submit your own jokes via text before the show starts, so think one up on your way over.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 2)
  • Attraction Length: About 10 minutes
  • Who Should Enjoy: Anyone
  • When to Visit: Anytime, great for a midday break
  • Open for Early Entry: No
  • Ride Photo: No

Futuristic Robot Scene at the End of Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom | magicintheplanning.com

Space Mountain

Space Mountain is one of the most iconic Magic Kingdom rides in the world, and it delivers every single time. This indoor coaster races through near-total darkness with unexpected dips and sharp turns that feel far more intense than the actual speed warrants. It does not go upside down, but the darkness does most of the work. The ride photo tip: look in the direction away from the side you loaded on right after you pass through the flashing blue tunnel.

  • Height Restrictions: 44 inches or taller
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 1)
  • Attraction Length: About 3 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone who meets the height requirement
  • When to Visit: First or last hour of the day, or anytime with a LL Multi Pass
  • Open for Early Entry: Yes
  • Ride Photo: Yes. (Taken right after the flashing blue tunnel before the first turn.)
  • Additional Info: Rider Switch is available. Check in with a Cast Member with your entire party to use this option.

Tomorrowland Speedway

Guests drive a real gas-powered car around a miniature speedway at a leisurely 7.5 mph. The cars are guided by a rail, so there’s no real steering involved, but that rarely diminishes the excitement for young drivers who have been waiting their whole vacation for this moment.

  • Height Restrictions: 54 inches to drive alone; 32 inches to ride when accompanied by someone 54 inches or taller
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Multi Pass, Tier 2)
  • Attraction Length: About 4-5 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone who meets the height requirement
  • When to Visit: First three or last three hours of the day, or anytime with a LL Multi Pass
  • Open for Early Entry: Yes
  • Ride Photo: No
  • Additional Info: Rider Switch is available. Check in with a Cast Member with your entire party to use this option.

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

The PeopleMover is one of Magic Kingdom’s great hidden gems. This narrated, open-air tram glides quietly through Tomorrowland on an elevated track, dipping inside Space Mountain, passing through the Buzz Lightyear building, and offering a peek at TRON from above. The line is almost always short, the ride is completely smooth, and it gives your feet a genuine rest. I recommend it every single trip.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: About 10 minutes
  • Who Should Ride: Anyone
  • When to Visit: Anytime, but especially when you need a break
  • Open for Early Entry: Yes
  • Ride Photo: No

TRON Lightcycle / Run

TRON Lightcycle / Run is the fastest roller coaster at Walt Disney World, and it makes that clear from the moment you board. Riders mount Lightcycle vehicles (think motorcycle-style seating, leaning forward over the bike) and launch through the Grid at high speed, with thrilling outdoor stretches and dark indoor sections that use lighting and sound to push the intensity. It’s a genuinely spectacular ride and an easy pick for the best coaster in Magic Kingdom. Loose items must be stored in the complimentary lockers before boarding, though phones, glasses, and wallets fit in small compartments on the vehicle itself.

  • Height Restrictions: 48 inches or taller
  • Lightning Lane: Yes (Single Pass only)

Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress

This rotating theater show follows one American family through four eras of technological progress, from the early 1900s through the present day, narrated by the ever-optimistic patriarch John. Walt Disney himself considered this one of his favorite attractions, and it shows in every detail. It’s also one of the longest running shows in Broadway and theme park history. Beyond its historical charm, it is one of the best air-conditioned, sit-down breaks in all of Magic Kingdom, and that is never a small thing on a hot Florida day.

  • Height Restrictions: Any height
  • Lightning Lane: No
  • Attraction Length: About 20 minutes
  • Who Should Enjoy: Anyone
  • When to Visit: Midday, when the park is at its most crowded and the heat is at its worst
