Christmas at Disney World 2021: Disney Very Merriest After Hours | magicintheplanning.com

By Alyssa Howard

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Christmas at Disney World is genuinely one of my favorite topics to write about. The entire resort transforms during the holiday season in the most magical way, from the towering Christmas trees and twinkling lights to the smell of seasonal treats and the sound of classic carols drifting through the parks. If you’ve never experienced Disney at Christmas, it belongs on your bucket list.

Disney just made a huge round of holiday announcements for 2026, and I am here for all of it. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, and Disney Jollywood Nights all have confirmed dates and details, so let’s dig into everything you need to know to start planning.

When Does Christmas Start at Disney World?

The holiday season at Walt Disney World officially kicks off in mid-November and runs all the way through early January. In 2026, the celebration stretches from November 7 all the way through January 6, 2027, with holiday magic touching all four parks, Disney Springs, and the resort hotels throughout the season.

The two main ticketed holiday parties, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom and Disney Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios, begin in early November on select nights. The EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays starts the day after Thanksgiving on November 27.

Mark your calendar: Tickets for both Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Disney Jollywood Nights go on sale July 9 for guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels, and July 16 for all other guests. These events sell out, so having your dates picked out before tickets go on sale is strongly recommended.

Magic Kingdom: Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

Christmas at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World | Magic in the Planning

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is the crown jewel of Christmas at Disney World. This separately ticketed, after-hours event transforms Magic Kingdom into a full-on holiday wonderland on select nights from November 8 through December 22, 2026. The party officially runs from 7:00 PM to midnight, but ticket holders can enter the park as early as 4:00 PM, giving you up to eight hours to celebrate. You do not need a separate park ticket unless you plan to enter before 4:00 PM.

2026 Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Dates

November: 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 24, 25, 27, 29

December: 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 20, 22

Tickets and Pricing

Tickets go on sale July 9 for guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels, Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels, and Shades of Green. All other guests can purchase beginning July 16. Pricing has not yet been announced for 2026; in 2025, tickets ranged from $169 to $229 depending on the date. Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members receive a discount on tickets.

These events sell out, particularly popular dates in December and nights close to Christmas. Once tickets go on sale, don’t wait.

What’s Included

Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas Parade

This enchanting parade winds through Magic Kingdom with dancing gingerbread men, toy soldiers, waltzing ballroom dancers, Disney characters in their holiday attire, and Santa Claus himself closing out the procession. The parade travels from Frontierland to Main Street, U.S.A., giving you plenty of great viewing options throughout the park.

Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks

Hosted by Minnie Mouse, this nighttime spectacular fills the sky above Cinderella Castle with holiday pyrotechnics, castle projections, and synchronized lighting. The castle is wrapped like a present in vibrant holiday scenes, and the fireworks can be enjoyed from Liberty Square, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and beyond. The returning Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Dessert Parties will also be available for those wanting a premium viewing experience with sweet treats included; reservation details will be announced closer to the season.

Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration

This high-energy stage show at Cinderella Castle brings together live performers and Disney characters, including Clarabelle Cow, Daisy Duck, and Woody from Toy Story, for a joyful holiday medley that will have you tapping your feet from start to finish.

Frozen Holiday Surprise

Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and the snowgies transform Cinderella Castle into a frozen wonderland in this dazzling outdoor show. Dance parties throughout the park round out the evening entertainment.

Character Greetings

The party features exclusive character meet-and-greets unavailable on regular park days. Confirmed so far for 2026: Anna and Elsa at Princess Fairytale Hall, and Jack Skellington as Santa alongside Sally, plus Mickey and Minnie in their holiday finest, all at Town Square Theater. More character locations will be announced closer to the event.

Santa’s Christmas Carnival

Head to Storybook Circus near Dumbo the Flying Elephant to meet Santa Claus, participate in crafts, and visit other Christmas characters. It’s a wonderful spot for young families and one of the most cheerful corners of the party.

Holiday Ride Overlays

Several classic attractions receive festive makeovers during the party, including Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway, Mad Tea Party, Jungle Cruise, and the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor. Additional fan-favorite rides including Haunted Mansion, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Pirates of the Caribbean, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin are also available, typically with shorter wait times than a regular park day.

Complimentary Treats

Cookies and hot cocoa are handed out at select locations throughout the park and are included with the price of your ticket. A range of additional holiday treats and beverages are also available for purchase. Treat locations are listed on the party map and in the My Disney Experience app.

EPCOT: International Festival of the Holidays

EPCOT Festival of the Holidays in Walt Disney World | Magic in the Planning

The EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, presented by AdventHealth, is one of the most underrated holiday experiences at Walt Disney World, and I mean that sincerely. If you love food, culture, and a festive atmosphere that feels genuinely global rather than generic, this festival delivers all of it. Best of all, it is included with regular EPCOT park admission. No separate ticket required.

The 2026 festival runs from November 27 through December 30, kicking off the day after Thanksgiving. It’s a beautiful complement to the ticketed parties at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, and the two can easily be combined in a single trip.

World Showcase Storytellers

One of the most charming elements of the festival is the World Showcase Storytellers, who bring holiday traditions from around the globe to life throughout the promenade. Confirmed storyteller locations for 2026 include:

  • Mexico Pavilion – Las Posadas Celebration
  • Norway Pavilion – A Mischievous Magical Barn Santa
  • China Pavilion – Chinese Lion Dancer and Si-Zhu Trio
  • Germany Pavilion – Adventskalender
  • Italy Pavilion – La Befana
  • Japan Pavilion – Daruma Storyteller
  • Between Morocco and France Pavilions – Hanukkah Storyteller
  • France Pavilion – Père Noël
  • United Kingdom Pavilion – Father Christmas
  • Canada Pavilion – Canadian Holiday Voyageurs

Exploring the Storytellers is one of my favorite ways to slow down and actually experience World Showcase rather than just walking past it. It’s especially wonderful with kids.

Santa Sightings

Santa Claus will be making appearances throughout the festival in multiple locations. You can find him greeting guests in CommuniCore Hall, look for Père Noël in the France Pavilion, Barn Santa in Norway, and Goofy dressed as Santa for photos at The Odyssey.

Holiday Decor and Spaceship Earth

EPCOT sparkles extra bright during the festival, with each World Showcase pavilion decorated according to its own cultural holiday traditions. At night, Spaceship Earth comes alive with festive holiday lighting and effects. And don’t miss the Gingerbread Spaceship Earth display, a stunning piece of culinary artistry that is both a visual and aromatic highlight of the season. The display lights up every 15 minutes with new song and light shows presented by Citizen.

Entertainment and Shows

Candlelight Processional

The Candlelight Processional is the emotional heart of the Festival of the Holidays. This beloved retelling of the Christmas story features a celebrity narrator, a mass choir, and a full orchestra at the America Gardens Theatre. Performances take place nightly at multiple showtimes. The 2026 narrator lineup has not yet been announced, but I will update this post as soon as it is revealed!

One of the best ways to guarantee a seat is by booking a Candlelight Processional Dining Package, which includes a meal at a participating EPCOT restaurant and reserved seating at the show. Booking details and pricing for 2026 have not yet been announced, so check back here for updates.

JOYFUL! A Celebration of the Season

This high-energy performance blends gospel, jazz, and R&B to celebrate both Christmas and Kwanzaa with incredible vocal performances and infectious energy. It’s been a festival staple for years and for good reason. It never gets old.

Voices of Liberty Dickens Carolers

The beloved a cappella group Voices of Liberty returns to the festival in their Victorian-era transformation as the Dickens Carolers, performing timeless holiday tunes in the American Adventure rotunda. Their harmonies in that gorgeous rotunda space are genuinely one of the most magical sounds at Disney World.

Festival Activities

Holiday Cookie Stroll

The fan-favorite Holiday Cookie Stroll is back. Purchase five qualifying cookies from designated Festival Kitchen locations and collect a stamp for each one in your Festival Passport. Redeem your completed stroll for a special sweet prize. It’s a delicious way to explore the festival with a built-in goal, and a great activity for the whole family.

Olaf’s Holiday Tradition Expedition Scavenger Hunt

Join Olaf as he discovers holiday traditions from around the world in this World Showcase scavenger hunt. Purchase the scavenger hunt map and complete the expedition to receive a fun holiday keepsake.

Scentsy’s Festive Fragrances: A Sensory Wonderland

Returning for its third year, this charming sensory experience lines the walkway between the Imagination! pavilion and World Showcase with snow globe-themed stations, each infused with scents celebrating holiday traditions from around the world, from Noche Buena to Diwali. It’s a lovely and unexpected addition to the festival.

Living with the Land: Glimmering Greenhouses

The interior of Living with the Land is transformed with twinkling lights and seasonal décor throughout the greenhouses, turning this typically relaxing boat ride into an especially magical experience during the holiday season.

Festival Kitchens

No Epcot festival is complete without the food kitchens, and the Festival of the Holidays delivers some of the most comforting and globally inspired seasonal dishes of the year. The full 2026 kitchen lineup and menus have not yet been announced, but expect beloved returning favorites and a few delicious surprises. I will update this post with the full Foodie Guide when it drops!

Hollywood Studios: Disney Jollywood Nights

Christmas at Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World | Magic in the Planning

Disney Jollywood Nights debuted in 2023 and has quickly become one of the most talked-about holiday events at Walt Disney World. This separately ticketed, after-hours party at Hollywood Studios leans into old Hollywood glamour and festive glitz, and the atmosphere is genuinely unlike anything else Disney does during the holidays.

In 2026, Jollywood Nights runs on select nights from November 7 through January 5, extending into the new year for the very first time! The party runs from 7:30 PM to 12:30 AM, with ticket holders able to enter as early as 5:30 PM. You do not need a separate park ticket unless you plan to arrive before 5:30 PM.

2026 Disney Jollywood Nights Dates

November: 7, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28

December: 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 23

January 2027: 3, 5

Tickets and Pricing

Tickets go on sale July 9 for select resort guests and July 16 for all other guests. Pricing varies by date and has not yet been announced for 2026. Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members receive a discount on tickets. This is a limited-capacity event, and dates sell out.

Shows and Entertainment

Disney Holidays in Hollywood

Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy host a glamorous holiday gathering at the Theater of the Stars, with appearances by Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Belle, Tiana, and other beloved Disney friends. The show draws inspiration from classic Hollywood holiday TV specials, which gives it a warm, nostalgic energy that is hard to resist.

What’s This? Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along

Head to the Hyperion Theater for this uniquely wonderful holiday experience, where the worlds of Halloween Town and Christmas Town collide. Sing along to “What’s This?” and “Sally’s Song” as snowflakes gently fall, surrounded by the eerie-meets-festive glow of Nightmare Before Christmas décor. If you love a little edge with your holiday cheer, this one is for you.

Glisten! Skating Show

World-class skaters perform on a synthetic rink in front of the Chinese Theater in this returning holiday spectacular, complete with classic holiday tunes, original Jollywood music, Art Deco flair, and twinkling projections. Grab a warm drink and enjoy.

Twilight Soirée at the Tip Top Club

The Hollywood Tower Hotel courtyard transforms into a 1930s-inspired swingin’ holiday celebration with live music and an atmosphere that feels genuinely transportive. It’s one of the most stylish and immersive corners of the party.

Pixar Disco

Pixar Plaza lights up with a holly jolly dance party featuring Edna Mode and Frozone from The Incredibles, Joy from Inside Out, and Mike Wazowski from Monsters, Inc. Great fun for all ages.

Jazzy Holidays at The Hollywood Brown Derby

A refined, adult-leaning retreat offering live music and holiday elegance within the Jollywood atmosphere. Advance reservations are recommended for this popular experience; details will be released closer to the event.

Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!

The party’s grand finale is this spectacular nighttime show lighting up the Chinese Theater with fireworks, lasers, holiday projections, and music. Starring Wayne and Lanny from Prep & Landing, the show traces their mission to rescue Santa through beloved Disney holiday classics, with “snowfall” on Hollywood Boulevard and MagicBand+ effects synced to the show. It is an absolutely fantastic way to end the night.

Character Greetings

Jollywood Nights features one of the most eclectic and nostalgic character lineups of any Disney event. Confirmed for 2026: Mickey and Minnie, Donald and Daisy, Goofy and Pluto, Phineas and Ferb, Max Goof as Powerline, Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers, Stitch as Santa, Baloo and King Louie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, Chewbacca celebrating Life Day, Lotso, Partysaurus Rex, Bing Bong, Duffy, and Scrooge McDuck. Additional character locations will be announced later.

Attractions Open During Jollywood Nights

  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets
  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
  • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
  • Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
  • Slinky Dog Dash
  • Alien Swirling Saucers
  • Toy Story Mania!

Wait times during the party are typically much lower than regular park hours, which is one of the perks worth noting for ride enthusiasts.

Animal Kingdom During the Holidays

Christmas at Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World | Magic in the Planning

Animal Kingdom doesn’t host a separately ticketed holiday party, but the park still has a warm, seasonal charm during the holiday season. Expect festive decorations, holiday-themed photo opportunities, and Tree of Life holiday awakenings each evening as the park’s iconic tree is illuminated with seasonal projections. It is a quieter, more relaxed holiday experience, which is honestly a nice contrast to the energy of the ticketed events.

The Merry Menagerie, a fan-favorite featuring life-size artisan-sculpted winter animal puppets in Discovery Island (including reindeer, polar bears, penguins, and foxes accompanied by live musicians), has been a beloved fixture in recent years. Disney has not yet made formal holiday announcements for Animal Kingdom in 2026, so I will update this section as information becomes available.

Tips for Planning Christmas at Disney World

Book early, especially for the ticketed events. Both Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Jollywood Nights sell out. December weekend dates and dates close to Christmas go fastest. When tickets open on July 16, have your dates ready and your payment information handy.

Consider a November visit. The parks are significantly less crowded in early-to-mid November than in December, the holiday décor is fully in place, both party events are in full swing, and you will pay less for tickets. It’s one of the best-kept secrets in Disney planning, and my personal recommendation for anyone with flexibility.

Use the early entry window. Both MVMCP and Jollywood Nights allow entry hours before the party officially begins. Use that time to knock out popular attractions before crowds build, secure early character meet spots, and get a feel for the park before the evening excitement kicks off.

Plan your evenings around the entertainment schedule. Both parties pack a lot into a single night. Know your must-sees ahead of time, build a loose plan, and accept that you will not do everything. The guests who have the best time are the ones who pick their priorities and stay relaxed about the rest.

Don’t skip the free festival. If you’re visiting EPCOT during the Festival of the Holidays anyway, make time for the Candlelight Processional even if you don’t have a dining package. General admission seating fills up fast, so arrive 45 minutes to an hour early for popular narrator nights. The experience is worth the wait.
