Disney World Height Requirements: A Complete Guide for Every Park
One of the most common questions I get from families planning a Disney World trip is about Disney World height requirements. Which rides have them? How tall does my child need to be? What happens if one person in our group cannot ride? These are all great questions to ask before you go, because knowing the answers in advance saves you from real disappointment at the ride entrance.
The good news is that the vast majority of attractions at Walt Disney World have no height requirement at all. Disney has always prioritized the family experience, which means most rides are designed for guests of every age and size. But for the handful of thrill attractions that do have requirements, the numbers matter, and a child who falls even one inch short will not be allowed to board regardless of how long they waited in line.
Here is everything you need to know about Disney World height requirements, organized by park, along with tips for families with mixed heights.

Disney World Height Requirements: What You Need to Know First

Before we get into the park-by-park breakdown, a few important things to understand about how Disney World height requirements work in practice.
Measurements are taken with shoes on. Whatever shoes your child wears to the park is what they will be measured in, so if your child is borderline on a requirement, their park shoes could make the difference. Hats must be removed during measurement.
Cast Members may measure your child twice. If your child is close to a requirement, they may be measured again right before boarding. This is a safety measure, not a judgment call. Prepare your child for this possibility in advance so they are not caught off guard, and make sure they know to stand up straight and tall.
Wristbands make the day easier. When a Cast Member measures your child at the first height-required ride of the day, they will issue a colored wristband if the child meets the requirement. This wristband is valid all day for all rides with the same or lower requirement, which means your child will not need to be re-measured at every single attraction.
Lightning Lane passes are non-refundable. If you purchase a Lightning Lane pass for a ride and your child is turned away for not meeting the height requirement, Disney does not issue refunds. Always verify heights before purchasing Lightning Lane passes for height-restricted attractions.
Children under 7 must ride with someone 14 or older on all attractions, regardless of height.
Magic Kingdom Height Requirements
Magic Kingdom is the most family-friendly of the four parks, with the majority of its attractions open to guests of any height. Of the seven rides with a height requirement, the lowest threshold is just 32 inches, which most toddlers meet. Even children who cannot yet ride the bigger attractions will find a full day’s worth of fun at Magic Kingdom.
- The Barnstormer – 35 inches or taller
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – 38 inches or taller
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – 38 inches or taller
- Space Mountain – 44 inches or taller
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure – 40 inches or taller
- Tomorrowland Speedway – 32 inches or taller (54 inches or taller to drive alone)
- TRON Lightcycle / Run – 48 inches or taller
A quick note on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: the height requirement was recently reduced from 40 inches to 38 inches when the attraction reopened in May 2026 after a major refurbishment. This is great news for families with younger children who previously could not ride.
Attractions with no height requirement at Magic Kingdom include: Astro Orbiter, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station, Country Bear Jamboree, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Enchanted Tales with Belle, The Hall of Presidents, Haunted Mansion, “it’s a small world,” Jungle Cruise, Liberty Square Riverboat, Mad Tea Party, The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, Peter Pan’s Flight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, Tom Sawyer Island, Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, and Walt Disney World Railroad.
EPCOT Height Requirements

EPCOT has a relatively small number of height-restricted attractions, making it one of the more accessible parks for younger guests. Most of its World Showcase experiences have no height requirement at all.
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – 42 inches or taller
- Mission: SPACE – 40 inches or taller
- Soarin’ Around the World – 40 inches or taller
- Test Track – 40 inches or taller
One important note on Mission: SPACE: there are two versions of the experience. The Green Mission (the less intense version) requires 40 inches. The Orange Mission (the more intense version that simulates a launch to Mars) requires 44 inches. If your child meets the 40-inch requirement but not 44 inches, they can still experience the Green Mission, which is a genuinely enjoyable ride in its own right.
Attractions with no height requirement at EPCOT include: The American Adventure, Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival, Frozen Ever After, Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros, Journey Into Imagination With Figment, Living with the Land, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, Spaceship Earth, and Turtle Talk With Crush, as well as the many World Showcase films and cultural experiences throughout the pavilions.
Hollywood Studios Height Requirements

Hollywood Studios has the highest percentage of height-restricted rides of any Disney World park, which reflects its thrill-heavy lineup. That said, there is still plenty for younger guests to enjoy, particularly in Toy Story Land and through the park’s many live entertainment offerings.
- Alien Swirling Saucers – 32 inches or taller
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run – 38 inches or taller
- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets – 48 inches or taller
- Slinky Dog Dash – 38 inches or taller
- Star Tours: The Adventures Continue – 40 inches or taller
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – 40 inches or taller
- The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror – 40 inches or taller
Attractions with no height requirement at Hollywood Studios include: Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage, Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and Toy Story Mania!
Animal Kingdom Height Requirements

Animal Kingdom has the fewest height-restricted rides of any Disney World park, making it one of the most accessible for families with young children. The park is currently undergoing a significant transformation with the former DinoLand U.S.A. area being reimagined into a new land called Tropical Americas, expected to open in 2027. DINOSAUR, which previously required 40 inches, permanently closed in February 2026 as part of this transition.
- Avatar Flight of Passage – 44 inches or taller
- Expedition Everest: Legend of the Forbidden Mountain – 44 inches or taller
- Kali River Rapids – 38 inches or taller
Attractions with no height requirement at Animal Kingdom include: Affection Section, Bluey’s Wild World, Conservation Station, Discovery Island Trails, Feathered Friends in Flight!, Festival of the Lion King, Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!, Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, It’s Tough to be a Bug!, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Maharajah Jungle Trek, Na’vi River Journey, TriceraTop Spin, Wildlife Express Train, and Zootopia: Better Zoogether!
Water Park Height Requirements
Both of Disney’s water parks have their own set of height requirements, and notably some attractions have maximum height limits rather than minimums, meaning they are designed specifically for smaller guests.
Typhoon Lagoon:
- Bay Slides – 60 inches or shorter (maximum height)
- Crush ‘n’ Gusher – 48 inches or taller
- Humunga Kowabunga – 48 inches or taller
- Ketchakiddee Creek – 48 inches or shorter (maximum height)
No height requirement: Castaway Creek, Gangplank Falls, Keelhaul Falls, Mayday Falls, Miss Adventure Falls, Storm Slides, and Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool.
Blizzard Beach:
- Chairlift – 32 inches or taller
- Downhill Double Dipper – 48 inches or taller
- Slush Gusher – 48 inches or taller
- Summit Plummet – 48 inches or taller
- Tike’s Peak – 48 inches or shorter (maximum height)
No height requirement: Cross Country Creek, Melt-Away Bay, Runoff Rapids, Ski Patrol Training Camp, Snow Stormers, Teamboat Springs, and Toboggan Racers.
What to Do If Someone in Your Group Cannot Ride
Disney has a wonderful solution for families with mixed heights called Rider Switch. Here is how it works: your whole group waits in line together. When you reach the front, one adult rides while the other stays with the child who does not meet the height requirement. When the first adult finishes, they switch and the second adult gets to ride without waiting in the full standby line again. Rider Switch is available at all height-restricted attractions at Walt Disney World and works with Lightning Lane as well.
A few practical tips for families with young children who are borderline on height requirements: measure your child at home before your trip wearing their park shoes, so you know exactly what to expect. If they are close to a requirement, be honest with yourself and prepare them for the possibility they may not be able to ride a specific attraction. Do not hype up a ride before they have been cleared at the entrance, and if they are turned away, having a plan for an alternative activity nearby makes the moment much smoother for everyone.
