10 Perks to Staying at a Disney World Resort
One of the best parts about a Walt Disney World vacation is staying on site, and Disney offers over 30 options for guests. Yes, you can save some money staying off-site, but there are definitely perks to staying at a Disney World Resort within the “Disney bubble.” Not only that, but Disney provides guests with multiple price points, amenities, and room configurations to meet their needs. So, if you’re wondering if it’s worth it to stay on site, here’s a look at the perks of staying at a Disney World Resort.

1) You will get early access to Lightning Lane Reservations

The Lightning Lanes at Disney World have seen some big updates with the introduction of the Lightning Lane Multi Pass (formerly Genie+) and the Lightning Lane Single Pass (formerly Individual Lightning Lane).
These new passes combine features from Genie+ and the old FastPass+ system, allowing guests to book experiences in advance. Instead of waking up at 7:00 AM every day of your vacation to grab reservations, you can plan ahead from home and build your itinerary around any dining or experience reservations you already have.
Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels—including Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel, Walt Disney World Swan Hotel, Walt Disney World Swan Reserve, and Shades of Green—can purchase passes up to 7 days in advance of their stay. Non-resort guests can purchase passes up to 3 days before their visit. This is a huge advantage for guests staying on site, especially since many of the most popular attractions book up quickly.
Passes can be purchased starting at 7:00 AM Eastern Time on the first day of eligibility, and guests can make reservations for their entire vacation (up to 14 days).

2) Spend more time in the parks with early theme park entry
Some of you may remember Disney World’s former “Extra Magic Hours,” which allowed resort guests into certain parks early or late on select days. While that perk never returned after the pandemic, Disney replaced it with Early Theme Park Entry.
Guests staying on Disney property (and other select resorts) receive 30-minute early entry to any theme park, every day. While 30 minutes may not sound like much, that head start can make a huge difference—especially for popular attractions.
Guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resort Hotels, Disney Deluxe Villas, and select hotels (Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve, and Shades of Green) also receive access to Extended Evening Hours on select nights at Magic Kingdom or EPCOT.
To take advantage of these extra hours, guests must have valid admission, a Resort ID, and a park reservation for the same park that day (or a Park Hopper ticket, as long as the reserved park was visited earlier).
3) Take mid-day breaks much more easily
With easy access to the parks and Disney’s free transportation, leaving mid-day for a nap, swim, or break from the heat is much simpler. While all resorts offer bus transportation, many also provide monorail service, boats, or access to the Disney Skyliner.
If you’re traveling with little ones—or just want to avoid the afternoon crowds and heat—being able to get back to your resort quickly is a game-changer.
4) Make use of keyless room entry, MagicBands, and MagicBand+ throughout your resort
MagicBands are amazing. They act as your room key, park ticket, payment method, and hold your Lightning Lane reservations—all in one place. They truly make the entire vacation feel more seamless.
As of January 1, 2021, MagicBands are no longer complimentary, but the basic versions are fairly inexpensive and often worth it for families. If you choose not to purchase MagicBands, Disney also offers keyless room entry through the My Disney Experience app.
Disney also offers MagicBand+, which includes all the original features plus interactive elements throughout the parks and resorts, along with a rechargeable battery.
5) You can take advantage of Disney’s free transportation and parking

Although Disney’s Magical Express has been permanently discontinued, Disney resort guests still enjoy free transportation to and from the parks, as well as free standard parking at both the parks and resorts.
Getting around Walt Disney World is significantly easier when staying on property, and this perk alone can save both time and money.
6) Enjoy Disney Dining
Disney Dining Plans are back, allowing you to pre-pay for snacks, Quick-Service meals, and Table Service restaurants throughout Walt Disney World.
While I’ve never personally purchased a dining plan, I know many guests love the convenience and flexibility they provide—especially for budgeting ahead of time.
7) Discover uniquely themed rooms and dining experiences

On our last trip to Walt Disney World, my family stayed at three different resorts—and experiencing the different themes and dining options was one of the highlights of our trip.
While I wouldn’t recommend switching resorts mid-vacation for every family, we stayed at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and each offered a completely different (and memorable) experience.
8) You can Book a Vacation Package and Make Payments
When you book your Disney resort and park tickets as a vacation package on the Disney World website, you can secure your trip with a $200 deposit and pay the remaining balance up to 30 days before arrival.
This also makes changing or canceling your trip much easier. Changes and cancellations are free more than 30 days in advance, and cancellations up to one day before arrival only forfeit the $200 deposit.
9) There is something for just about every budget
Yes, staying off-site can be cheaper—but Disney offers resorts at nearly every price point, from Value Resorts to Deluxe Villas.
In fact, Disney’s Value Resorts are often less expensive than standard hotels in our hometown, while still including all the perks of staying on property.

10) Plan a seamless Disney vacation
There’s something incredibly convenient about planning your entire trip inside the “Disney bubble.” Your resort stay, park tickets, dining reservations, and Lightning Lanes can all be managed in one place through the My Disney Experience app.
One of my favorite perks is the ability to book a split stay. If you want to experience more than one resort, Disney will transport your luggage for free while you enjoy a day in the parks.
